All emotions have a natural energy cycle. They escalate, ideally express in their instinctive ways, then discharge—completing their physiological arc and welcoming our bodies back to their regulated baseline. In practical terms, in the peak of activation, this might look like successfully protecting yourself, saying "no," breaking down sobbing and being held, speaking your truth rather than staying silent, and so on.
Trouble is, this cycle often never completes. We experience a trauma or feel an emotion—grief, fear, anger, panic, frustration, etc.—and then are either shut down by someone else or shove the feeling down ourselves (for any number of valid reasons), and inside our body it nests. Charged and frozen in time. This is especially true when we are young, when many of us did not have the environmental conditions or emotionally mature caregivers to hold the space required for us to express and complete our emotional responses.
Enter adulthood. Now, we are all walking around carrying this invisible, visceral baggage—unprocessed emotional energy wound up in our bodies, subconsciously driving our actions and engagement with life. As a result, we shut down (our emotional availability; our life force energy), blow up, experience anxiety, struggle with self-worth, etc.
So what is there to do?
The answer lies in creating conditions for the emotional charges—however old they are, and whether or not you are aware of their origin—to rise from the depths of your body and complete the energetic cycle they have been needing to complete.
There are numerous ways to do this, all somatic in approach. All valuable. And. Breathwork is the #1 most powerful tool I have found for big, deep emotional rewiring and release.
Transformational Breathwork stimulates the nervous system and subconscious in a way that invites what is buried to not only emerge, but to transform.
It is wild. It is visceral. It can be overwhelming. It is catharsis, reaching what is aching to be reached. It helps us build our capacity to stay with discomfort. It utilizes technology of the breath and the body, what is inherent within us. It is facilitated in a container where whatever wants to emerge is safe, supported, and held. It helps you regulate and build capacity in your nervous system. It knows that the only way out is through.
Next issue, I'll be sharing more about the mechanics and benefits of Transformational Breathwork. It is a powerful somatic modality that can produce significant results in even a single session. If you're curious to chat about it or feeling called to book a session, head here now.
